Sonia Riccio

Sonia Riccio was born in Pozzuoli, in the province of Naples, where she still resides today. He has embarked on his artistic path for about 15 years. Self-taught, he never had artistic reference points, he only recognized the his talent thanks to a strong desire to express himself through painting. He defines his pictorial language as abstract, minimalist and informal. His works are the story of his moods and let the work welcome his inner release through a spiritual search that is based on the emotions of the moment: fear, anger, strength and lightness. 

A research that has marked the conception of the monochrome in his works. Its primordial essence is the work al black that accompanied it and still accompanies it, just as an experimentation of the absence of color, then black as seduction, a synthesis of contrasting emotions that allow them to travel in its dark rooms. The color takes shape more and more with respect to the sign and the traces tend towards the simplification of his pictorial gesture.His path has evolved over time in the search for the opposite monochrome, or in white. "The temptation of white", a transformative act that goes towards his spiritual search. 

In 2014 the painting process had an abrupt interruption for inexplicable reasons. Perhaps because he felt the need for change. In 2015 he started the production of white monochromes, almost wanted to represent his spiritual evolution, a pictorial evolution already underway in the works in black in where the simplification of the sign is evident. Since 2016 everything has been moving on two tracks: white / black, in search of a perfect balance that it only managed to find at the beginning of 2019, with the production of the first “Black & white” where the trace crosses and gives continuity to the two non-colors. The work in Blue becomes a moment / color of passage, as a sort of mediation and lightness. 
"Blue helps me mediate between two colors as powerful as black and white." In the pandemic year 2020/21 the work continues in a slavish transformation towards color, a deepening characterized by the search for soft tones, almost as if he wanted to generate one contrasting vision towards the dark and dramatic times generated by the pandemic.
