Simona Da Pozzo

I am an interdisciplinary visual artist and researcher with a practice in video and performance. I was born in Venezuela with the privilege of double nationality and raised mainly in Italy. After 20 years spent in the blue banana, since the pandemic I live in Naples. My pronouns are She/Her/Hers.

My practice hugs the aesthetical and the political in a soft way, mainly in the public sphere, resulting in ephemeral actions, videos, photos, objects, installations, curatorial projects and books. Within conversations, objects and connective actions conceived as a sounding board of my relationship with places, I explore time-based visions to move cognitive and body habits. Currently, I investigate bodily postures opening up (or not) human disposition to narratives other than those mainstreamed by the white-male-human structures.

I’m part of Ex-Voto Association and as VEGAPUNK I make physical and virtual places for sharing as a free curatorial extension of my artistic practice. In Milan, I earned the diploma in film direction at the Scuola di Cinema, Televisione e Nuovi Media (2000) while I was training professionally as a contemporary dancer at CIMD. Living and working in Paris in the zeros, I get there my Master’s degree in fine arts and visual expression (DNSEP, Paris 2009). More recently, I studied at Sint Lucas School of Arts in Antwerp in the frame of the Advanced Master of Research in Art & Design in a Socio-Political Context (2020). I presented my works and researches throughout Europe, America and Asia, both in underground and institutional frameworks, such as: Museo de Arte Contemporaneo Caracas, MMAM Moscow, MAO Turin, YBCA San Francisco, Hong Kong Space Museum, EMPAC New York, Museo Triennale Milano. Most of the interventions in the public space have been realized in the frame of art residencies like: Kunstlerdorf Schoeppingen (DE), VIR (I), State Of The City (NL), MansionBlatt (Lebanon), Le Belordinaire (Fr).
