Raffaela Mariniello lives and works in Naples (Italy). Her artistic research centres around social, cultural and ecological themes, in particular, the transformation of the urban landscape.
In 1991, when the crisis of the iron and steel industry caused Italsider in Bagnoli (Naples) to shut its doors, R.M. began a photographic campaign about the factory, which continues to be the only historical testimony to the steel mill’s activity: Bagnoli, una fabbrica (catalogue published by Electa, Naples, 1991).
Napoli veduta immaginaria (catalogue published by Motta, Milan, 2001), consists of a series of images dedicated to the city of Naples, where what emerges is the novelty of an unusual industrial and post- industrial urban scenario for that city.
The volume Raffaela Mariniello (catalogue published by Ffotogallery editions, Cardiff, Wales, U.K. 2006) is a collection of photographs taken of the city of Cardiff, commissioned by the local administration with the collaboration of the Ffotogallery. The work was showcased at the Turner House Gallery in Cardiff in October 2005. 
In 2006 the artist began a project  Souvenirs d’Italie  (catalogue published by Skira editions, Milan, 2012) on the historical neighbourhoods of Italian cities where it’s depicted the transformation of geografic areas, due to mass tourism. The colour large-format images, show the changes in the essence of a site, deprived of his historical and cultural identity. 
In 2014 she dedicated a project to the arson at the Museum Città della Scienza in Naples with the poetic and silent work Still in Life. In the recent exhibitions Capri B&B Behind and Beyond at the Certosa di San Giacomo in Capri in 2016, she continues to work on the effects of tourism and the identity of places.
La Deriva del Paisaje is the retrospective curated by the Italian Cultural Institute in Madrid in 2018, followed by participation in various projects of artist’s residencies abroad in 2018 and 2019, which aims to promote Italian contemporary art.
In May 2018 she was in an artist’s residence in Barcelona for the cycle of residences curated by the Italian Cultural Institute. In this context ​​R.M. produces a video, Greetings from with which she participates in November 2018 at LOOP video festival in Barcelona.
In November 2019 R.M. was in the Ivory Coast in Africa, for the project Under The Spell Of Africa. During her residency in the city of Abidjan, R.M. produced three images printed in giant format for the exhibition Nature, Culture and Artifice at the Donwhai Contemporary Art Foundation in Abidjan, in November 2019.
