Description

Prisco De Vivo was born in San Giuseppe Vesuviano, (Naples) in 1971 and he is considered a remarkable painter, sculptor but also a sensitive poet and designer. He has taken part in many kinds
of cultural association all over Italy; His interest goes from essay writing, theater to the world of the cinema.

He can count exhibitions in Italy and abroad. His paintings and sculptures are preserved in public and private collections. He is considered one of the most deep and original artists of his generation. His representations are a kind of expressionist ideal detached from any ridgid world vision. His artistic touch draws the human restlessness in a unique way, blooming in a higher conceptual dimension.

“His artistic images are never easy to understand or sometimes lack in natural beauty, on the contrary they show that pain has the same symbolic force of synaptic connections. This symbolism balances the ultimate vision of the art in his existence, escaping from a dark symbolism.

This meaning could be seen through the alienated figures in the ash-painting mixture of “Riemersioni dalla cenere” (1994), and it could be considered as the first path to his intense expressive research that has been showed out over time cyclically, with” La malinconia dell’uovo” (1995). “Le scarpe di Auschwitz” (1995-1996), “I ripari” (1996), “L’imbuto e il suo psicodramma” (1997),” Le bamboline in bocca” (1998),” L’enigma della macchina da cucire” (2001-2002), “Le metamorfosi di Dafne” (2006-2012), “I colori e la carne del poeta “(2007-2016).

Recently, De Vivo is more focused on representing the female beauty as a metaphysical absolute value, something like mystical and timeless state that concerns a new way of looking at the feminine sensuality and produces new deep vibrations recreating a new expressive original complex feeling. He decided to continue the new cycle following this concept:” Modelle” (2001-2004), “Spose” (2004-2006), “Volti” (2008), “Poetesse” (2008-2009), “Mistiche” (2010-2020).

He took part in many fairies, in Art-Brussels ‘99, Art Fair of Bologna (2000), Colors and shapes of the third millennium in Lugano (2001), Otranto Festival (Aspects ofthe young art in the South), in 2001 at the Aragonese Castle in Lecce, e “Dinamica del Volto’’ in the Contemporary art Gallery of Palazzo Ducale in Modena (2004), at the Biennale del mediterraneo in Naples (2005) and at the international project of the Eklektika Company(2006) supervised by Francesco Gallo.

He has been presented in solo shows for over twenty years, and both in national and international exhibitions. Villa Kellerman, Potsdam (1998), Fortezza da Basso, Florence (1998), Galleria Scognamiglio & Teano, Naples (1999), Palazzo dei Congressi, Lugano (2002), Palazzo Cerruti, Mantua (2004), ZustZust  Gallery, New York (2006), Galleria Artinvest, Rome (2006), Maschio Angioino, Naples (2008), Fundación Museo del Parque, Argentina (2014), Galerie Carré Doré, Monte Carlo, Monaco (2016), Mac3 - Contemporary art Museum of Caserta (2016), French Institute, Grenoble, Naples (2016), Berardelli Foundation, Brescia (2021).

He has been working together with several Italian and foreign periodicals and art magazines, moreover he has taken part in visual poetry exhibitions and poetic reading.

He published “Il lume della follia”, a poem and images volume, in 2020, Oèdipus Editions, and he also illustrated the Rubine Giorgi “Sacrifico per la parola” Ripostes Editions. He was the editor of the anthology “Speciale Campania”, in cooperation with Sandro Montalto La Clessidra n. 1-2, (2019/2020), Joker Edition, he launched, in the picturesque scenery of the Partenio Regional Park in Quadrelle (Avellino) the art space Lucis, his personal atelier in Irpinia, a place who is considered the perfect place where art flourishes and gets to its higher levels.

During thelatest art working sessions De Vivo has been using new materials to evocate sufferance and the fight of mankind: terracotta, oil and laminates, antiques clothes, paper and printing cartoons, wood and recycled contents. Since 2010 to recent years his work counts new forms like: huge artistic installations representing the sacred and evangelical themes with his unique touch: “Crucifixtio/Redemptio”, “L’Ultima Cena”, “L’Annunciazione.
