Mariangela Levita

Mariangela Levita was born in Aversa in 1972, lives and works between Naples and London and since 2021 she has opened a studio house in the historic center of Aversa.

Levita focuses her attention on the textual organization of the aesthetic operation, with the clear intention of creating a context in which to generate an alphabet of the image: line, matter, color, non-color, light.
Through a site-specific design, moving from canvas to architecture and from installation to video, it creates an empathic relationship with the public and stimulates visual perception without following a figurative logic, much less narrative. His alphabet of signs combines elements that are only apparently opposed: ancient forms are translated into contemporary patterns. Having overcome the gap in the representation of reality and the unhinging of its own linguistic codes, the pictorial medium in Levita's research becomes a self-reflective practice, analysis of a code, meta-painting that critically elaborates the relationship with tradition and at the same time refines the tools to redefine the present of this medium.

The artist has exhibited in numerous museums and galleries in Italy and abroad including:

He has created several permanent public works including: Uno Sguardo Sospeso, Palermo Pavilion, A. Cardarelli Hospital, Naples 2007; Geometrical Sequence in Color, Ponte Don Bosco, Naples 2010; Flag Down, Casa dei Cristallini, Naples 2012; WeTransfer / Solaris, Byblos Art Hotel Villa Amistà, Verona 2014 / 2015. Since 2014, his "site specific" Extra – Terrestre, work for the project "Seven Works for Mercy in dialogue with Caravaggio" is present in the permanent collection in the Pinacoteca del Pio Monte della Misericordia of Naples.
In November 2019 he created a temporary "site specific" work TUTTO.Leonardo, for the Italian Cultural Institute C.M. Lerici, Stockholm. A "total project" that broadly combines Leonardo da Vinci and Gio Ponti, who designed and built the prestigious architecture headquarters of the Italian Cultural Institute in Stockholm.
