Giovanni Battimiello

Born in Naples, Giovanni Battimiello lives and works in Sant’Agata De ’Goti, Benevento.

His artistic research moves in different directions starting from painting but favoring photography, video and installations. Through a synthetic and contemporary language, the artist links his personal feeling to reflections on the present and its problems, identifying them also in a physical and temporal crossing, a journey of exploration and elaboration.

His projects have been exhibited at the PAN in Naples, at the Openarthouse Gallery in Ivrea (Turin), on the occasion of the Summer Exibition, curated by the Shazar Gallery, and at the Art Performing Festival in Naples and Galatina, in his latest solo exhibition at the Scuderie of the Villa Favorita in Ercolano; one of his permanent works is located at the MAAM, Museo dell’Altro e dell’Altrove Metropoliz in Rome. Massive structures that create fast routes and hide places wrapped in the shadow turn into architectural colonnades that support heavy concrete tongues. Lines that run parallel and on different floors occupy and design the space. The heaviness of artifacts indicate an ideal direction. They are all components that contribute to the stratification process of cities and especially of the suburbs. The memories of the travelers of the road or who lived in those places occupied and occluded by colossal and functional superstructures become hidden life conduits.
