Cesare Patanè’s work is articulated through different media, mainly installation, sculpture and painting.
His works respond directly to the surrounding environment as a starting point. Forms are dissociated from their original meaning, which are continuously inverted: daily objects are modified or detached from their natural function; manipulated through the use of classical techniques, such as gold-plating or forming, they are inserted in different contexts and in so doing acquire new functionality.
In various works he engages the audience in a physical manner, adopting a playful approach meant to trigger in them contrasting feelings and thoughts. Sculptures present themselves as a “direction device”, they try to point, they spur the user to abandon passive contemplation and explore the work, participating in first-person to determining their meaning.
