Carolina Ciuccio

My work has always focused on the theme of identity in all its various forms and unfolds in both the individual and the social sphere, involving personal and relational dynamics with a special interest in the culture of peoples and their ethnic diversity.

Since 2015 I have begun working on the image of the puzzle as an evolutionary process in which each piece represents a symbolic fragment of identity, as the part of a whole and a link between different realities.

In more recent projects my work has addressed the concepts of reconstruction and connection, examining nature and landscape in search of new possible perspectives.

My studio is situated in the very heart of the historic centre in one of the oldest buildings in Naples. When I chose it, it was a dilapidated apartment which I decided to renovate by bringing to light, and reusing, the fascinating original elements.

Before beginning the renovation, I felt the need to make works within the space: a performance, documented in a video, a series of photographs and interventions on the fabric of the false ceiling of the apartment. These works, assembled for a project entitled “Stratificazioni” (Stratifications), represent the historical memory of the place and a metaphor of my inner artistic journey.
